My online gaming world
eight hours a day, 3 days straight... enclosed in a room with one door and a window, armed with nothing but a machine running on a 2.0 gig processor, 64mb video card, 512 memory and an internet connection with a speed of 350mbps. Pathetic. I am one with the machine. (WTF! that sounds geeky... ewww!) I care not of the world outside my room. just me and my machine. A sound or two would pass through the thin space between the ground and my door -- the sound of children running... our dog squeegy barking... a baby crying... and nothing more.
Computer on. Openning the game RAPPELZ. The screen goes black, so does the world around me. Nothing but the screen... just the screen... (geeky... just geeky)
A trumpet was sounded. Drums followed. Hundreds of men shouting! Swords clashing! The sound of an Epic battle filled my room. This is my world. my gaming world. I'm standing in the center of Laksy town. Going through the quest on my list. which should i do first? kill 50 petit angels? Collect 30 hard bones from Skeleton Destroyers? Kil the Boss Paradise Lost? hmm... 'Tis a good day to die... for Paradise Lost. Fully armed and battle-ready, i cast my self-buff spells and summon my Red Pixie pet. Im off to another adventure for the day! i barely gotten 10 steps from where i started when something caught my attention. JINGLE BELLS, JINGLE BELLS, JINGLE ALL THE WAY... Crap! Some kids were singing in front of our house and no one's here to dismiss them with a few bucks on their bottomless pockets but me. arrghh... I checked my wallet and found no coins. Bah! Let them sing their hearts out. il just lessen the sound from my computer to give them the impression that no one's home. I'm sure they'll be gone before they finish one song. I paid the teleporter 500 rupees to send me to the next town, katan. I mounted my Ornitho and kicked his side to get us going on our journey to hunt and kill Paradise Lost. We swiftly passed a few farms inhabited by corrupted soul prisoners and Skeleton Avengers. We're about to cross the bridge when... JOY TO THE WORLD... AND HEAVEN AND NATURE SING... Holy Crap! They're still here?? Bah! Let them sing their hearts out! The end of the bridge was infested with a dozen Goblin smashers. They saw me before i even thought of slowing down and heading back. i got no choice but to dismount and prepare for battle. I unsummoned my ornitho to avoid it from getting killed. I chose my goblin, raised my staff and cast a spell "FIREBALL"! A flaming ball of fire erupted from thin air and immediately raced to the targeted goblin leaving a streak of flame in the air. The goblin was incinerated by the fireball, leaving a pile of black dust on where it stood. Another goblin immediately rushed to me and this time, another fireball appeared and incinerated the goblin before it got to it's third step. I turned my back and thanked my Red Pixie pet. I got ready to cast Splash Thunderbolt to kill them all when... WE WISH YOU A MERRY CHRISTMAS... WE WISH YOU A MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR... THANK YOU.. THANK YOU... (What the! I havent given them anything yet and they're already singing the end song?! Woot! ) I overheard one of the kids said "Wait! We haven't received any money yet!". Another kid answered "Oh, right!" and together they sang "JINGLE BELLS, JINGLE BELLS... OH WHAT FUN IT IS TO RIDE...". I can't take this interruption any longer. I half-willingly left my post and went to open the door. It's already dark outside. I checked my watch. 6:30 pm. I saw the kids in front of our gate. Four little niños singing happily hoping someone might hear them and fill their pockets with christmas coins. I took a few steps forward away from the door and shouted "NOBODY'S HOME! GO AWAY!". I went back inside and settled in my chair. Wide-eyed, i saw my character lying on the bridge with my pet beside him, both unmoving... both DEAD! A few Goblins stood before them grinning. SHIT! I turned off my computer, grabbed my keys and jacket, went out and hopped on my MOTORCYCLE and went for a ride on a cold christmas eve. |
